At Happenstance, we like tradition but we’re not so old fashioned. We like our manhattans with a beach, our whiskey not-so-sour and our seven and sevens don’t equal fourteen. Our founder wanted to create a brand that pays homage to the tradition of American bourbons that have come before us, but with an unexpected punch of today’s most sought out flavors. So, born was our Founder’s Edition straight bourbon whiskey - a 90 proof, cabernet-style bourbon with a complex combination of vanilla, hazelnut, toasted oak, honey and toffee notes. So smooth, we’ve won gold at the San Francisco Wine & Spirits competitions back to back years, in addition taking home gold at the Denver International Spirits Competition, SIP Awards and Beverage Testing Institute Awards. We carefully craft every detail from grain to glass to make the Happenstance experience an exceptional one, sourcing local & quality wherever possible.

At JUSTIN, we combine traditional Old World methods—like hand-harvesting and small-barrel aging in French oak—with New World technology. For example, the “Air Knife”, an ingenious New World process invented by our winemakers, boosts grape quality and efficiency.   Once the grapes are harvested, our winemakers—some of the best in the business—gather to sort, select, age, taste, blend, and decide what goes into every bottle. We planted our first vineyard back in 1981 with a mission to make world-class Bordeaux-style blends. Since then, we’ve expanded both our knowledge of viticulture in this unique region as well as our acreage.

Happy Ending Cocktails

First mixed in the early 80’s by founder, Bill Gage, the original Happy Ending™ cocktail was created to satisfy a crowd of guests at one of his unforgettable house parties. The cocktail was a hit from the very beginning and became Bill’s go-to from that moment forward.

His signature cocktail followed him to Vermont where it earned him the role of social chair at his fraternity and has since stood the test of time as the best-selling cocktail for over a decade at the Gage family restaurant on Lake Geneva.

After 40 years Bill knew he had something special – a seriously satisfying, one-of-a-kind cocktail that truly lives up to its name. The only improvement would be the ability to bring the party to any place.

So, after years of requests from family, friends along with some industry connections, the Happy Ending™ canned cocktail grew from an idea to reality. In 2025, Bill partnered with Eric Weber, spirits industry veteran, to make Happy Ending™ even more accessible. Now, fans can enjoy the crisp, refreshing taste of Happy Ending in a convenient, ready-to-enjoy format - Cheers!
