Founded in 1973 by Bill and Darlene Sinks, Bluegrass Beverages is a staple of Hendersonville and Sumner County. What began as a small wine, spirits, and beer store has now grown through three generations of the Sinks family. The shop has been in the same Hendersonville location all these years, with a facelift and expansion in 2015 that made the space even more customer-friendly.
The Sinks boys – Bill Jr., Tim, and Johnny – all put in their time at Bluegrass after college. Bill Jr. graduated in ’75, Tim in ’78, and Uncle Johnny jumped in at the store somewhere around the late ’70s or early ’80s. As Hendersonville grew, so did Bluegrass, becoming a fixture in the city’s landscape.
Bluegrass Beverages got its name from the nearby Bluegrass Country Club, where Bill Sr. and Darlene were members. The store became a local hangout, reflecting the community spirit. Interestingly, the city issued only three retail liquor licenses in ’73, and Bluegrass snagged one of them.
Bill Jr. took over in the ’90s and kept the momentum going. The big overhaul in 2015 was a game-changer, aligning with new regulations that allowed mixers, soft drinks, ice, and accessories.
In August 2021, Adam bought the store from “Uncle Billy,” ensuring the family legacy lives on. Now hitting the 50-year mark, Bluegrass is move than ever all about serving customers and boasting the widest range of quality drinks around.
