AS A TRADITIONAL-METHOD SPARKLING PRODUCER, J VINEYARDS INCORPORATES MANY OLD-WORLD TECHNIQUES AND TRADITIONS INTO ITS WINEMAKING.   At J Vineyards, all sparkling fruit is hand-harvested at night in cool temperatures to ensure the grapes remain in peak condition. An ultra-gentle pressing in our Coquard presses (rarely found in the U.S., and one of very few in California) prevents astringency or bitterness, and ensures a clean, refreshing mouthfeel. The one and only New Orleans original, Sazerac Rye symbolizes the culture and history of the Big Easy. In the 19th century, industrious farmers and distillers in the heartland of the United States barreled and shipped their rye whiskeys down the great Mississippi River to the bustling, growing city of New Orleans. These spicy and assertive spirits fueled the whiskey culture of New Orleans and established the first American cocktail, The Sazerac. The Sazerac was born in the French Quarter at a time when saloons, veiled as coffee houses, lined the streets of New Orleans. At the famed Sazerac Coffee House, the drink of choice became a libation of rye whiskey, absinthe and bitters and with that, the first branded cocktail, The Sazerac, was born. Our Sazerac Rye carries the unrestrained taste and character of New Orleans.

Our story begins long ago, when tales of folklore were passed as truth. The elusive mystery of Burnt Church Road in Bluffton, South Carolina is the reason why we are here. We believe the story of why the Lowcountry road was given such a polarizing name should become transparent. Upstate Vodka is both very traditional and quite unique for vodka due to the use of apples. The final product is not “flavored” but the apple base does lend a wonderful mouthfeel and a nice hint of fruit on the back end of the palate. You can taste the fruits of our labor in every bottle of Upstate Vodka. Not every apple is created equal and not every batch is exactly the same. Part science, part art, using local apples, we take the time and a hands-on approach to make the finest quality vodka every time.
